"Sometimes I think it should be a rule of war that you have to see somebody up close and get to know him before you can shoot him." ~M*A*S*H, Colonel Potter
So the 6 year drone war in Pakistan has been increasingly escalating in 2010. Reports estimate that since 2004, there have been approximately 172 reported drone strikes in Northern Pakistan resulting in between 1,200 to 1,800 deaths. BBC reports that in the past 29 days, there have been 25 drone strikes in Northern Pakistan, killing at least 150 people, militants and civilians. Despite the numbers reported, nobody really knows for certain if the figures are accurate, as conflicting news reports on the same drone attack incidents constantly project varying estimates. Furthermore, the consistent labeling of the estimated 1,800 drone-attack deaths by the media as "militants," "Taliban," or "al-Qaeda" is also suspect, and with this month’s numbers, U.S. drone attacks have killed more people in Pakistan than the estimated 1,600 dead from the recent disastrous flooding.
Rachel Maddow recently stated that the U.S. is test driving this new war in Pakistan. The truth is that this drone war in Pakistan has been going on for over 6 years and is merely part of the U.S. government's global "War on Terror," or whatever bullshat moniker they want to come up with for the murder, expansion of capitalism, and promotion of militarization that has been going on since 2001 (and in reality much longer than that).
Mr. President, you have let down millions of people who naively thought that you would be different. Where is the change? President Obama has been nothing but another Bush, another puppet, pushing war and lying to the people. It is time for an Independent leader. Bipartisanship is obviously not the way.
