Sabado Gigante!

So what is going on in the world today?

Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin rallied this morning with fellow Tea Partiers in front of Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. in what was dubbed a non-political "Restoring Honor" / celebrating America event.  Reportedly between 100- 400,0000 people attended the rally.  The gathering in front of Lincoln Memorial drew some criticism due the fact that it was held in the same location and on the 47 year anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have A Dream Speech."  The event was strongly opposed by Rev. Al Sharpton, who organized his "Reclaim The Dream" as a counter-protest to Beck's alleged "hijacking" of the historic anniversaryGlen Beck had Alveda King, niece of Dr. King, speak in support of his rally. She told the cheering crowd that, "If Uncle Martin could be here today, he would sure commend us of giving honor where honor is due."

Love him or despise him, you have to give Glenn Beck credit for his ability to organize so many attendees.  Although misguided and often outspokenly ignorant, Beck is getting through to a large group of people (right wing conservatives).  I'm not sure that his message is doing any more than strengthening the divide between liberals and conservatives and inciting resentment and anger from both sides, but hey, a lot of people listen to him.  There is even speculation after this rally on whether Beck is eying a run for political office in the near future.  Personally, I get my news online and never watch television news media.  The only time I've seen Glenn Beck on television is while watching "The Daily Show With Jon Stewart."

Also in the news, Beck's co-worker and fellow conservative, Sean Hannity, had Jerry Springer on his show on Thursday night to debate President Obama's job performance.  Jerry Springer adamantly supported the President, stating that he "must admit he's turned out to be an excellent president."  Of course Hannity disagreed.  Why else would Sean Hannity have Jerry Springer as a protagonist on his show other than to face off against what mainstream America sees as a smut daytime talk show host, a stigma that immediately makes Springer's opinion seem ridiculous and without merit?  Good tactic Fox News.

Democrats are obviously worried about the strength and momentum of the conservatives in the upcoming elections, as two major Democratic Committees launched their first nationwide get out the vote initiative of the fall campaign season today. "This level of voter contact this early is unprecedented," Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee chairman Chris Van Hollen said in a statement.  Is it possible that the Mayan's 2012, End of Time prediction had to do with Palin becoming President of the United States?  Man, I really hope its something like meteors and earthquakes as opposed to that.

Senator McCain is pushing a new bill in the Senate that would allow a U.S. Citizen to be arrested and detained indefinitely, all without Miranda rights or ever being charged with a crime.  So McCain, I take it that you're not a fan of the right of due process guaranteed in the U.S. Constitution

Time Magazine has recently credited Wikileaks on their list of the "Top 50 websites of 2010," despite recent criticism that Wikileaks and those involved with the confidential disclosure should be held liable under espionage statutes

Ha, what if historical events had Facebook statuses???  Check it out.

Well, that about does it for the news run down.  Enjoy the rest of your Saturday everybody.
