How Possible??

Today, the U.S. Justice Department approved the merger of Continental and United, paving away for the creation of the world's largest airline.  The merger was announced in May and the DOJ has, just a few month later, approved the merger.

The reason this is so surprising is that when Sirius Satellite Radio and XM Satellite Radio announced their merger in early 2007, it took the Justice Department over a year to approve it, greatly damaging the resulting merged entity due to expenditures in seeking the requisite approvals.

I understand that there are different legal reasons for why one merger can take so long while the other does not, but dragging on for over a year for a satellite radio merger and then taking less than 4 months to pass through a merger that would create the world's largest airline does not make too much sense any way you look at it.
