Tom Donohue, the president of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, reportedly stated that, “. . . Everybody is going to contribute to this clean up. We are all going to have to do it. We are going to have to get the money from the government and from the companies and we will figure out a way to do that.” This statement leaves open the likely possibility that the U.S. Government, and therefore the taxpayers, will be paying for a portion of the environmental cleanup in the Gulf of Mexico caused by BP/Transocean/Halliburton.
With President Obama meeting with the CEO of BP next week, we should continue to see more bullshit in the news about whose paying the final bill. Until then, Congress is freeing up tons money to help out the Coast Guard's cleanup efforts. How cool would it be if Obama really did kick CEO Haywards' ass?
