To Burn, Or Not To Burn

As Europe experiments with "waste-to-energy" technology, the U.S. remains skeptical. In Denmark, "waste-to-energy" plants are finding a way to solve the country's garbage storing and energy production problems at the same time.

Waste-to-energy plants burn garbage and use the energy produced from incineration to power the communities. Sounds like a decent solution, but the environmental activists call the process "the devil" for fear that it actually encourages waste in order to feed the incinerators. Zero waste should remain our mission, but shouldn't we take another, more modern and technologically advanced look at alternatives to landfills -- at least for waste that cannot be reused or recycled? After all, let's not forget about this garbage monster lurking in the Pacific.
