Trippy! - Scientists Take A Fresh Look At Hallucinogens

A New York Times' article reports a recent trend among scientists toward re-testing and reassessing the effects of certain hallucinogens.

Stigmatized as a complete danger during the 1960s, today hallucinogens are being tested to determine their possible health benefits. Preliminary studies have concluded that there are, in fact, both health and spiritual benefits. The article explains that although such hallucinogens remain illegal across the country, the U.S. government has authorized controlled tests of psychedelics on human subjects at such U.S. universities as John Hopkins, the University of Arizona, Harvard, New York University, and the University of California, Los Angeles, amongst others. The article also plugs the Mission of the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies' conference this weekend in San Jose, CA, entitled "Psychedelic Science in the 21st Century.
