Was John Lennon a clairvoyant? A narcissist? Or, was he right? In 1966 Lennon said,
"Christianity will go. It will vanish and shrink. I needn't argue with that; I'm right and I will be proved right. We're more popular than Jesus now; I don't know which will go first - rock 'n' roll or Christianity. Jesus was all right but his disciples were thick and ordinary. It's them twisting it that ruins it for me."Will Christianity go first? God, I hope so, and not just for the sake of rock and roll. The Vatican, as it has so many other times, condemned the Beatles for their "dissolute and uninhibited" lifestyles. It feared that the almighty-Lennon's statement would spur the onslaught of devout followers turning to pop culture instead of the Catholic faith. After all, being bigger than Jesus used to actually mean something. Regardless, it was actually in 2008 that the Vatican renounced its condemnation of the Beatles. So why now? Why again, Vatican, are you "making peace" with the Beatles? Are you attempting to grasp at those last little straws in your time of vain? Is it because you're (shockingly) still around, and Lennon's prophecy has not yet been realized that you are no longer threatened? Well, watch out! Now, some musicians want to be bigger than even the Beatles! Imagine.
"I wanna be bigger than Jesus and bigger than wrestlingIn conclusion, I simply see an ambitious bunch of rock stars with admirable aspirations. Meanwhile, the Vatican continues to flutter about in chaotic confusion.
Bigger than the Beatles and bigger than breast implants
I'm gonna be the biggest thing to hit these little kids
Bigger than guns, bigger than cigarettes. " -Atmosphere
