recent WSJ article on the Colorado Medical Marijuana industry has brought forth an interesting opinion on the development of the medical cannabis industry. The article explains how the continued embrace of the "stoner" culture within the growing medical marijuana industry in Colorado and California is doing nothing to strengthen the legitimacy of the movement. While an understandable marketing technique, proponents of this "stoner" culture, are simply reinforcing the decades of propaganda that have served to maintain the criminality of recreational and medical uses of the plant. The point made within the WSJ article is compelling: until legalization proponents abandon the "stoner" campaign, they will have a difficult time legitimizing marijuana as a form of medicine, whether it be for pain, social disorders, or any of the number of ailments for which marijuana can be used for.
