Is the U.S. Government Taking and Testing Newborn Babies' DNA Without Parents' Consent

According to a CNN report today, newborn babies in the U.S. are screened for a panel of genetic diseases. Since the testing is mandated by the government, it's often done without the parents' consent, according to Brad Therrell, director of the National Newborn Screening & Genetics Resource Center.   Once the DNA is tested, it is in many cases stored indefinitely.   Soon couples may realize that they can screen for the same panel of diseases at the embryonic stage of development, and this could lead to a demand for "designer babies.Gattaca, here we come.
